Meet the Band

Orchard Creek is built around a shared passion for bluegrass and country music — rooted in tradition and rich harmony. Over the years, we've been fortunate to perform with a talented group of musicians who bring their own unique energy to every show.

Our lineup includes Dobro, guitar, bass, and mandolin with multiple singers blending in classic and original bluegrass harmony. You’ll hear authentic, high-quality acoustic music. Orchard Creek members each add to the musical story of the band.

Come hear the music — and meet the musicians — at our next performance.

Keith Murdock

He worked at the CMA office in Nashville in the 80’s and also for Barry Fey’s concert company in Denver. His bands have opened for The Ramones, Talking Heads, Huey Lewis, and The Romantics. Keith was a member of the local bluegrass band: Steel Pennies.

Jon Sherman

Multi instrumentalist Jon Sherman has been performing music for 40 years. On mandolin, guitar and tenor banjo, he has performed with Cajun legend Doug Kershaw, Big Paddy, Gerry C and the Zydeco Playboys and many others. Jon studied under Alan Munde and Joe Carr at South Plains College sharing stages with Natalie Maines  and many members of the original Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys band. While at South Plains College he was awarded the Tiny Moore memorial scholarship.

Jerry Mills

Jerry has done touring and recording with The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Michael Martin Murphey, The Ozark Mt. Daredevils, and Mason Williams. Jerry played on several of Charlie’s Daniels legendary Volunteer Jams in Nashville. Jerry helped form bluegrass band Southern Exposure which played throughout Denver and The Rocky Mountain west for 35 years. As a Radio DJ, Jerry was the recipient of Best Bluegrass Radio Show for his program, Rocky Mountain Bluegrass, and Westword’s Best Bluegrass Radio Program.

Jay Allen

Jay learned to play the upright Bass by jumping in with some very fast, very accomplished bluegrass musicians at the Lyons jam. He quickly became competent and then accomplished if for no other reason than to keep up with the pack. Jay returned from a long trip to Brazil and Bolivia with a Charango (Bolivian Mandolin) and has since delighted folks by playing fiddle tunes on this melodic ten stringed decidedly non-standard instrument. Jay's steady-at-the-tiller Bass playing and exceptional bluegrass fundamentals have been the foundation for most of Michelle Allen’s bands and all of her original music.  In addition to playing in at least three bands with Michelle, he has played in a number of other local bands, including the widely acclaimed Colorado Bluegrass band, "Ragged Union". Jay currently plays with the talented singer-songwriter David Coile.
